Research funding outside the HSG

The HSG’s research funding programmes are only some of the options open to HSG researchers. The SNSF, EU and CTI funding programmes are also extremely important.

Swiss National Science Fund (SNSF)
The SNSF is the most important funding institution in Switzerland. The Fund offers researchers a wide range of funding programmes for project funding, funding of individuals, publications and conference articles.

The Research Committee’s office can advise you on many of these SNSF funding programmes.

The Innovation Promotion Agency (CTI)
The CTI is the Confederation’s funding agency for innovation (previously called the Commission for Technology and Innovation). For over 60 years, it has been funding transfer of expertise and technology between private enterprise and universities. It brings together partners from both spheres in application-driven research and development projects and supports setting up start-up companies.

European research
Internationally, the various European Union research and education programmes are very important. Since the Affiliation Agreement in 2004, Swiss participants have had the same rights and obligations as participants from EU member states. Euresearch St.Gallen can provide more information on these research programmes and advisory services.

Further organisations
In addition to these three large funding institutions, there is a variety of other organisations that provide funding for basic or applied research. The following list shows a selection of some of the most important funding institutions:
