University of St.Gallen faculty

Our faculty members have backgrounds in both research and in applied fields, incorporating both aspects into their teaching.

Approximately 80 professors, 60 assistant and junior faculty as well as more than 300 lecturers and assistants are responsible for the task of teaching our students. Nearly 50% come from abroad.

One of the best teacher/student ratios
To be able to cope with higher student numbers, the University of St.Gallen has invested in an extension of its faculty in the last few years. With about 300 professors and lecturers, the HSG has one of Switzerland’s best teacher/student ratios in economic sciences. This means that the high quality of education is guaranteed regardless of increasing student numbers.

Parallel lectures in the Assessment Year
In the Assessment Year, there are some big introductory lectures for which not all the undergraduates can be accommodated in the large Audimax. For this reason, they are run in parallel and additionally also transmitted to other lecture rooms. We have also massively increased the number of exercise groups in order to ensure a good teacher/student ratio.

Teaching of basic subjects by full professors
In contrast to many other universities, full professors, i.e. holders of chairs, teach undergraduates right from the start of their degree courses at the University of St.Gallen. The fact that basic subjects are taught by our full professors from the Assessment Year/Bachelor’s Level is highly appreciated by our students.

Rooted in practice
We place a premium on an education that is rooted both in science as well as in practical experience. Our professors are closely associated with the institutes, with some professors serving as institute directors. The institutes work to ensure practical relevance while maintaining close relationships with industry, legal practice, politics and society.

Worldwide network
Our faculty are part of a worldwide network and take part in an intimate exchange of ideas with our students. Faculty members pass on their expertise not only in lectures or study groups; they also make themselves available to students for questions in their free time.
