Foreign applicants
The number of foreign students is limited by Swiss law to a maximum of one quarter of the total number of students. For this reason, a selection process is necessary.
Admission restrictions for Bachelor and Master Programmes
The admission restrictions apply to applicants with foreign citizenship and foreign secondary school leaving certificates.
The following applicants are exempted from these restrictions:
- applicants with Swiss/Liechtenstein nationality;
- applicants with a Swiss permanent residence Permit C;
- applicants with a recognised Swiss/Liechtenstein secondary school leaving certificate or university degree;
- applicants for Ph.D. studies;
- guest students.
Admission test
If the admission restriction applies to you, you must pass a study qualification test in addition to meeting the academic requirements. Admission to studies at the HSG can be granted by passing the HSG admission test or an international test (GMAT, GRE or LSAT). You are free to decide which test you would like to take.
To qualify by taking an international test for admission to the University of St.Gallen, you must submit a satisfactory test score before the enrolment deadline. If your enrolment documents do not show a satisfactory test score (GMAT, GRE, LSAT), you will be invited to take the HSG admission test.
Please note
The study qualification test is not a substitution for a non-recognised or partially recognised secondary school leaving certificate or non-recognised university degree.
Language requirements
If you are not a native speaker of German and you are enrolling with a foreign secondary school leaving certificate/university degree for a German-language major, proof of sufficient knowledge of German must be submitted by the relevant deadline.
If you are not a native speaker of English and you are enrolling in an English-language Master's programme, you must submit proof certifying your proficiency in English before the relevant deadline.
Special regulations for Master’s programmes
For the Master’s programme Strategy and International Management you must take the GMAT, for the Master’s programme Quantitative Economics and Finance you must take the GRE and for the Master's programme Banking and Finance you must take either the GMAT or the GRE test. You therefore do not need to take the HSG admission test for these programmes.
Special regulations for applicants with degrees from China
Please note, that in case of admission to the University of St.Gallen the APS certificate of a validation interview has to be submitted no later than August 31 for the Autumn intake or 31 January for the Spring intake.
